Mestre: Attractions and Shopping

Planning to visit Mestre and looking for a hotel nearby? Or have you chosen to make it a stop off on the way to your stay in Venice? In either case, if you’re looking for a bright, modern four-star hotel, voco® Venice Mestre is the perfect place to offer you what you need!

Mestre is known best as the gateway to Venice, only being divided by the Ponte della Libertà. Really it’s a city full of attractions and especially in the summer when the streets and squares are full of locals and tourists. You’ll find typical Venetian taverns, or bacari, as well as long-established cafés and many, many restaurants and taverns where you can try typical Venetian cooking – often reimagined in a modern way like our restaurant also offers.

Stroll through the city centre and visit Galleria Matteotti, a striking structure in the twentieth-century liberty style built entirely from steel and glass. You can shop and enjoy looking at the shops through their windows, where you can find older boutiques alongside more modern businesses. Still in the centre of Mestre, you’ll find Piazza Ferretto, also known as “Mestre’s living room”. As its nickname suggests it’s a real hub for the city’s locals! From there you can see Mestre’s seventeenth-century cathedral, Palazzo del Re and the Clock Tower.

Not forgetting, Museo M9, museum of the twentieth century that explores the history of Mestre since its construction detailing its people and changing culture. An unmissable place to visit for anyone who loves history.
