Murano

A must-see for anyone planning to visit Venice and its surrounds. It’s the second largest island on the lagoon and you can easily reach it by water bus. Distinctive for its vibrantly coloured houses and elegantly styled palazzi, it’s the destination to take a pleasant stroll. Lose yourself in its narrow lanes, discover its bridges and enjoy the delightfully romantic views that appear at every turn, revealing gondolas and charming canals.

Burano

This island is quite a bit smaller than Murano and further from the historic city centre, but the team at voco® Venice Mestre think it is definitely worth a visit.
It’s a really calm, quiet place, moving at a relaxed pace and it’s the home of lace making and a really historic museum, Museo Storico. Lace-makers can still be seen even in the summertime sitting in the open air, letting you admire their creations. They make their stunning pieces using the lace bobbin technique.
A must-see especially for anyone interested in local curios.

Torcello

Once you’ve visited Burano, you should certainly drop off at Torcello. You can get there on the water bus in about five minutes. This lagoon island is imbued with an ancient ambiance, as if time has stopped.
It is known today for its vegetable growing and has quite a small population, although in 638 CE, it was the first lagoon settlement which led to the Venetian civilisation of the area. If you visit the island, we recommend seeing Attila’s throne, located in the town’s main square. They say that it belonged to the famous king of the Huns. Walk along the main canal to reach the Devil’s Bridge, Ponte del Diavolo. Once you have crossed this bridge, you’ll be in the delightful area that’s entirely devoted to agricultural production.

Venice Lido

One of the most famous islands on the lagoon, this is the only one, apart from Pallestrina, to allow cars and bicycles. It’s also known as the VIP island especially during the film festival period.
Well-known for its sandy beaches and shallow, calm waters, Venice’s Lido boasts a coastline of some 10 km where you can find exclusive beach resorts as well as free beaches with limited services. The southern-most part of the island is a WWF haven, right next to some quite wild, little-known beaches – perfect if you like privacy or you’re simply looking for some peace and quiet.
