The Italian state museum located in the Dorsoduro district is home to the most famous and notable collection of Venetian art. It houses masterpieces from 1200 to about 1700 in the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Carità, Church of Charity, and other neighbouring buildings. You’ll find paintings there by Bellini, Tintoretto and Titian.
Amongst the various paintings on display, you’ll also see the “Pietà” by Titian and Giorgione’s “Tempest”. A must-see for any art lover.
Found right on the Grand Canal, this is one of the major Italian museums as far as modern and contemporary art is concerned, and it’s a recognised reference point internationally.
It houses works by Pollock, Dalì, Giacometti and De Chirico as well as temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year.
Certainly a smaller collection compared to the other Guggenheim museums but is still a clear rival nonetheless.
